Stool of carved and painted wood in the form of a turtle from a haus tambaran (men's ceremonial spirit-house). 20th century, East Sepik River, New Guinea. L 27.00 cm. Acquired: Wewak, New Guinea.

Note. Before its collection in 1971, this item was for many years in the Roman Catholic Mission in Wewak where it served as a doorstop.
