Protective armband made from a single thick unpolished plate of tortoiseshell bent into a cylindrical shape and laced closed with rattan hidden under a knot of woven vegetable fiber, the outer surface decorated with incised arabesque designs. 20th century, Sepik River, New Guinea. L max 20.50 cm. D max 10.50 cm. Acquired: Middle Sepik River, New Guinea.
