Covered dish of blue-green milk-glass with snail-knob on lift-off carapace-lid, interior stamped with the name Vallerysthal. European, 19th century. L 19.00 cm. W 11.00 cm. H 12.00 cm. Acquired: Paris.

Note: This is one of a series of covered animal-dishes of pressed milk-glass made by Vallerysthal Glassworks in the latter half of the 19th century. The company was founded in 1836 in Lorraine, which at that time was French but from 1870 to 1918 was part of Germany.
