Ceramic serving-dish in the form of a Diamondback turtle, Malaclemys terrapin, with carapace and tail as lift-off lid. USA late 19th early 20th century. L 23.00 cm. Acquired: Brighton, England.

Note: The Diamondback was considered a delicacy and widely eaten in the eastern United States from the late 19th century into the 20th century, and this dish may well have been used in one of the many restaurants that specialized in Diamondback.
