Real shell of turtle converted into a flask with a bamboo neck and stopper and attached by a cord to a netsuke (waist-band toggle) of bone so that it might be worn as a sagemono (hanging object) suspended from the waist. Late 19th century, Japan. L 13.50 cm. Acquired: Kyoto, Japan.
