Chinese statuette of Guandi Note. Guandi is the deification of the Han general, Guanyu, found in state temples as the official defender of the Chinese Empire and in local shrines as the popular protector against evil spirits. He was also associated with the guardian deity of the northern quadrant and thus represented in traditional pose seated with his left foot on a turtle and his right foot on a snake.
